About the Project
For over 20 years, Lend A Hand India has worked to strengthen vocational education and skill development in India. Its Pathways application supports students participating in vocational education and internship programmes, bringing key student activities and information into a digital experience.
Refresh Ideas partnered with Lend A Hand India to provide consulting and UI/UX design for Pathways, applying design thinking principles to create a clear, accessible and student-focused interface.
The Challenge
Vocational education programmes operate across diverse geographies, institutions and user groups. A digital application serving students at this scale needs to make routine activities intuitive while supporting programme monitoring and coordination.
The challenge was to translate programme requirements into a practical digital experience that students could navigate easily, with essential information and activities accessible through a straightforward interface.
Our Approach
The Solution
The Pathways interface gives students a consolidated view of important programme information and activities. The student dashboard brings together attendance, internship hours and points, alongside a calendar interface for attendance and prompts for diary entries.
The design focuses on making everyday interactions straightforward, helping students engage with the application while supporting the wider vocational education programme.
The Impact
At its 20th anniversary celebration on 1 December 2025, Lend A Hand India showcased Pathways as part of its broader digital ecosystem for skill education. The organisation’s event displays highlighted the scale of its work:

8.7 lakh+ students across the wider digital education initiatives

10 states represented in the organisation’s digital footprint

6,500 schools and 8,500 teachers represented in the programme ecosystem

50,000 students reported on the event display as using the Pathways application

90 days to 7 days reported reduction in MIS deployment time
